Explain About Your Personality |
The reason I am teaching English as a foreign language in South Korea is because over the last few years as a Communications professional in my home country; I have always been passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. I have worked with youth and children in the past and as our great leader in South Africa said,” “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I have moved across the world from my home country to South Korea to educate the beautiful young minds in Korea, education is a top priority in the country and I believe that being an English teacher is a very important and valuable job. Each and every day, young children look forward learning English, they are passionate about knowing the language and how to communicate. I am currently teaching in South Korea and I enjoy the relationship and Teacher Student rapport that I build with my students in the classroom. I have adapted well to Korean culture and some of it has made me realize how important Korean culture is including the yearly celebrations, food and traditions. Before I arrived in South Korea, I enrolled myself in an in class 120 hour TEFL Course so I can be a better teacher. I learnt so much during the course! English teachers need classroom English to create the comfortable situation in the classroom. As classroom events are procedural, this procedure should be verbalised. The classroom English is divided into several parts namely opening the lesson, questioning, variability in teaching, organizing the classroom, giving instruction in English, explaining and demonstrating, confirming and checking understanding, reinforcing and ending the lesson. I also learnt about my specific style as a teacher, am I a decisive teacher, flexible? Yes and more student teacher focused. As a teacher, stating instructions is also important eg. the teacher clearly describes the purpose of a learning activity, the directions students need to follow, and the learning goals they are expected to achieve. When students know the reason why they are being asked to complete an assignment, and what they will specifically be graded on, they are more likely to understand its importance and be motivated to achieve the learning goals of the assignment. Similarly, if students clearly understand the process they need to follow, they are less likely to experience frustration or give up because they haven’t fully understood what they are expected to do. I also have the necessary skills to be a great English teacher in South Korea, I have travelled to many countries thus have a wide range of knowledge and I am patient and understanding. I naturally have lots of energy while also being able to discipline the class. It may seem impossible sometimes, but students insist that as long as they are treated with respect, they understand that excellent teachers are human too and that nobody can be perfect all of the time. I understand this. Completely throwing oneself into another culture is unbelievably enriching and actually teaches you to appreciate your own even more! I hope to continue enjoying this journey. |
