||I don't necessarily have any formal teaching experience, however, from middle school to sophomore year of college I was a camp counselor and the specials teacher which was held at the local elementary school sponsored by the township. I also taught dance class for a bit in high school.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am a Native English speaker from the United States with a degree in Asian Studies from Temple University. I have completed Intermediate Korean language courses at Temple and also studied abroad at Yonsei University for the 2015-2016 school year and completed KLI Level 3. I am 160 hour TEFL certified and I also spent my summers from 2006-2015 as a summer camp counselor/teacher for the Nether Providence Township in my hometown. In 2015 spoke at the 10th Annual Greater Philadelphia Asian Studies Consortium (GPASC) Undergraduate Research Conference at Villanova University. My presentation and paper which was titled “Cultural Hybridity, Fetishization & Appropriation: “2NE1 & Breaking the American Music Industry;” examined appropriation, misappropriation of Black culture, colorism and racism within the Korean music industry. My post-graduate research has led me to examining race relations between Korean populations within in inner city areas and globally and their interactions with groups of people with darker skin; I look for how they are perceived by each other and how the global media presents and misrepresent these diﬀerent cultures. The rise of the Hallyu wave and the importance for globalization in relation to South Korea’s booming economy and its position as an important and major nation involved in vital global aﬀairs deas of globalization and public interest into foreign cultures is constantly increasing.
Growing up I had an odd upbringing and struggled identifying who I was as a person coming from a diﬀerent race and background apart from my family. I was adopted at about 6 years old. My parents are an older White couple from the suburbs. My parents were foster parents and teachers. On one side I am 1 of 8 siblings and adopted side 1 of 6 siblings. I come from a very multicultural family filled with well over 20 nieces and nephews from countries such as Ukraine, China, Guatemala, Bulgaria, and Liberia so childcare is a family specialty.In Summer 2011, I went to El Salvador for a missions trip, in which I worked at an orphanage, fixed up houses, visited and played with children at the local hospital and neighborhood. I shared my story with the children who lived at the orphanage; they were surprised that I knew Spanish and that our stories were similar in nature. It is a really amazing thing when you can connect with another human being from a completely diﬀerent culture and communicate with one another.
Being an African-American woman myself, I've had to self-educate myself and through my lived experiences, I believe that I would bring a new perspective to the students I will be teaching and seeing a person such as myself on a daily basis will ease some of the misconceptions and harmful stereotypes about certain groups of foreigners and start to build harmonious communication but still empathize and embrace Korean culture that other foreigners might disrespect or fail to assimilate to in any way.
I understand the importance for dedicated Foreigners whose focus will be on ensuring that their students are comprehending and advancing in their English studies at all times. I am the perfect candidate for a English teaching position who will not let the nightlife of Korea detract from their focus, hinder a student’s potential to learn or get into drunken foreign antics. It is my belief that in order to speak to the Korean people and be of the people. This means their needs to be mutual respect and through such will help garner better understanding and harmony all around.
I believe that due to my educational and family background, and lived experiences qualifies me for consideration for a position as a TEFL Teacher in the Seoul/Gyeonggi Area, also having comfortably and familiarly lived in this area previously. Camp Counselor, Nether Providence Township Summer Recreation Program

During the summer months of June and July The Nether Providence Township sponsors a Summer Recreation Program so that the kids in the township can have and fun and safe way to spend their summer. For the past two summers I have been working as a Camp Counselor. The main goal of the camp and my job as a camp counselor and specials teacher was to make sure the kids were having fun but were also being safe. We played gym games, did arts and crafts, and had a special surprise activity every day.
● I was asked back for the second year with a raise and I have been asked back for the summer of 2014 as well.
Also to note: On one side of my family I am 1 of 8 with 8 nieces/nephews and on the other I am 1 of 6 with 19 nieces & nephews. My parents are also elderly 70+ so I am very well versed in childcare, babysitting and assistance for people who are unable or impeded to care for themselves entirely on a day to day basis.
