 Cover Letter
Dear Director,
I have always firmly believed that a successful teacher endows their students with the ability to use what they have been taught throughout their daily lives. My name is Chloe Waite and I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where I received an International Relations and Global Studies degree. I have worked with primarily younger students but I am confident in my ability to work with older students as well.
The passion required to successfully teach English is sustained by empathy. A teacher without empathy never inspires their students to go outside of the classroom and connect with the lessons on a personal level. English is an exceptionally difficult language to learn and without practical application the road to fluency can be very rough. When I teach English I try to empathize with my students and help them feel that what they are learning is valuable to their lives. By incorporating many group activities into my lesson plans I also allow the students to learn and grow together, and I find that learning collectively is often more satisfying to the students than learning alone.
I have mentioned adaptability several times and I feel that this is my strongest personality trait. Teaching abroad in South Korea required me to be at my most flexible and understanding. From a shift in environment to learning the teaching style of another culture, I was pushed out of my comfort zone and I believe I am better for it. I had to work with many kinds of personalities and adapt to new situations very quickly. I was also required to teach a wide range of students and therefore I am able to modify my lessons to better fit each learning type. I also believe that my background in customer service has allowed me to become someone that can communicate well and perform under stress.
Within my resume is an outline of my educational, employment, and volunteer experience, as well as my contact information. I look forward to hearing from you and I genuinely appreciate your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Chloe
