To Whom It May Concern,
Hello, my name is Briana. I am writing to express interest in teaching English in Seoul, South Korea. I am a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania. While I received a B.A. in Criminology, I also minored in Psychology and East Asian Languages and Civilizations with a concentration in Korean. Though my degree is not in English education, I have a TEFL certification and am currently teaching at Fortis Collegiate Academy in Seoul. I have tutored, mentored, and taught English to a large variety of students, in America, Japan, and South Korea, from kindergarten to college students.
Though the attached resume highlights my professional experience, I would like to take this time to expand upon a few of the areas in which I have taught students. During my time at Come On Out Japan, I mentored and taught high school students to become more confident in their English speaking ability while discussing how their individual lives can impact a large audience in the future. As an English teacher at Fortis Collegiate Academy, I developed class material and lesson plans for teaching over 80 students ranging from kindergarten to middle school. This role demanded oversight of multiple intensive courses, creation of learning materials, regular grading of students’ work, and preparation of examinations and progress reports for the students.
As a result, students’ individual needs, effective and engaging exercises, incorporating multicultural aspects into lessons, using positive reinforcement, and providing a safe and open learning environment are the core aspects of my teaching philosophy. Through these experiences, I have gained knowledge that I believe would allow me to better serve, mentor, and teach students. I hope to have the opportunity to interview with you for a position. Thank you for your time and consideration.
